Mayor Hill Will Not Seek Re-Election

Four-term mayor Graham Hill announced Tuesday he would not be seeking re-election in the municipal election this fall.

In making his announcement, Hill said he first campaigned 12 years ago on a vision to lead change that would see View Royal seen as a great place to call home and where property values are sustained.

“A committed Council and great staff work have seen View Royal recognized around the region as a very nice place to live,” he said.

Mayor Hill said he looks forward to new opportunities to serve his community.

“I've been privileged to represent View Royal for the past 12 years as a voice for issues that affect our community and the region,” said Hill. “My interest in communities and the south island doesn't end with this announcement. I intend to write a new chapter in my life and career.”

Hill noted among the accomplishments of the past 12 years:

  • construction of a Public Safety Building that opens this fall to replace the Town's old fire hall;
  • the new Craigflower bridge;
  • the Helmcken Road redevelopment and beautification;
  • the Four Mile Hill redevelopment; and
  • a $100 million commercial and residential development near the hospital.

A 12-year Capital Regional District (CRD) director, Mayor Hill was a founding director of the Island Corridor Foundation and has served as chair of the Regional Hospital Board and vice-chair of the CRD.

“I want to thank my Council colleagues for their stewardship of View Royal, staff for their professionalism in helping turn visions to reality and the many supporters who have walked the path with me.”
