Draft Parks Master Plan Open House - April 13

The Town of View Royal is inviting all residents to provide feedback on recommendations for a new parks master plan at a community open house on Wednesday, April 13th at Town Hall, 45 View Royal Avenue, from 3:30pm - 7:00pm. Residents will be asked to comment on recommended priorities for parkland acquisition and park improvements to be implemented over the next 20 years.

The recommendations are based on extensive consultation with the community. 152 View Royal residents responded to an online questionnaire and nearly 100 attended a World Café and open house event on February 3rd. Additionally, student consultants conducted 29 interviews with local residents and View Royal staff. “The Town of View Royal is delighted that so many residents took the time to provide us with their input,” says Mayor David Screech. “It shows how much View Royal residents care about their parks.” The parks master planning process is the result of a unique partnership between the Master of Community Planning program at Vancouver Island University and the Town of View Royal.

Dr. Pamela Shaw, Director of the new Master of Community Planning program at Vancouver Island University describes the process as “thorough and diligent, with recommendations reflecting the contributions made by Town of View Royal residents”.

From the comments received at the first open house and the online questionnaire, it is clear that residents value connectivity, increased waterfront access and improvements to existing parks and infrastructure. These are just a few of the values that informed the creation of the proposed new parks master plan, which will be reviewed with View Royal residents at the final open house on April 13th.
