View Royal Parks Master Plan Open House - February 3
January 27, 2016
The Town of View Royal is encouraging all residents to participate in an open house and World Café event on the development of a new Parks Master Plan on Wednesday, February 3rd at Town Hall, 45 View Royal Avenue, from 3:30 pm-8:00 pm. The World Café sessions (small focused discussion groups on key topics) which engage citizens in discussions on their priorities for the View Royal parks system, begin at 4:00 pm and 6:30 pm.
The open house builds on the unadopted Parks Master Plan drafted in 2006-2007. Much has changed in ten years since that planning process was completed. The goal for the new plan is to provide a financially achievable and sustainable vision for View Royal’s parks system over the next 20 years.
Master of Community Planning students from Vancouver Island University and staff from the Town of View Royal are working together on this project. “The Town of View Royal is delighted to be working with Vancouver Island University’s first cohort of Community Planning students and with our residents in developing a visionary and feasible strategy for View Royal’s park and trail system,” says Mayor David Screech.
An online survey, stakeholder interviews, and a second open house on the draft plan will unfold over the next few months. Dr. Pamela Shaw, Director of the new Master of Community Planning program at Vancouver Island University describes the project as “a phenomenal opportunity for our students to get involved in a real and practical project that is of interest to the community.”
Following the open house, the online survey will be available at www.viewroyal.ca for those residents who cannot make it to the open house or for those who wish to provide further comments after February 3.
The results of the information gathered at the first open house and World Café sessions and the online survey will inform options and recommendations to be reviewed with View Royal residents at a second open house in April 2016.
