Helmcken Road Trestle Mural Project Moving Ahead

A BIG thank you to those who voted on the mural themes during the month of May, and provided your input and suggestions!

Here's how you voted:

At the June 6, 2023 meeting, Council voted to accept the top rated theme of "Trees/Forest". Following the meeting, a Call to Artists was sent out resulting in a total of nine (9) proposals received by the Town. The submissions were then reviewed by the RCMP, ICBC, Island Corridor Foundation, the Town’s Community Development Advisory Committee, Town staff and the Arts Consultant to consider things like suitability, safety, and ease of maintenance. Staff presented the recommendations to Council with the successful submission selected at the July 18, 2023 meeting.

Collin Elder, a local Vancouver Island artist, has been selected to create the mural for the Helmcken Road trestle walls. His mural concept supports the approved theme of trees/forest:
