Emergency Communications & Social Media

When emergencies hit, the public often wants to be part of the online conversation. Twitter, as a social media communication tool, is very useful to get the message out.

Twitter accounts (@VRFD) and hashtags (#yyjtraffic) can be used to connect and share information about emergency response and prevention activities taking place at home and around the world.

For your information, here is a map listing Twitter accounts for local governments, police and fire services within the Capital Region as well as accounts for utility service providers, Local Health Authority and Emergency Management BC. Also included on the map is a quick list of emergency hashtags in the region.
