The largest grant of $1 Million dollars goes to the Capital Regional District to complete the trail and crossing upgrades on the E&N Rail Trail Humpback Connector that spans Songhees and Esquimalt Nations between Hallowell and Maplebank Roads.

As many View Royal residents know, this particular section of the trail is complex, involving several jurisdictions and a variety of challenges relating to access, road widths, site lines, crossings and traffic issues. Although the specific engineering and servicing details have not been finalized, the Province’s significant funding announcement is an acknowledgement that our collective vision for a healthy active community is on the right track. The BikeBC grant will make the completion of this critical link in the rail trail a reality.

When completed, the Humpback Connector will be 17km in length and will link the City of Victoria, the Township of Esquimalt, Songhees Nation, Esquimalt Nation, the Town of View Royal and the City of Langford. Residents, regardless of age or ability, will be able to bike or walk on a Class A facility that connects with the Galloping Goose Regional Trail for a total network of 80 km of multi-use trails that span the region.
