Eagle Creek Village - Road & Boulevard Improvements (Helmcken Rd & Watkiss Way)

The road and boulevard frontage works for the Eagle Creek Village Development are in full swing. The majority of the underground infrastructure is now complete and lighting, curbs and sidewalks are being installed, as well as the concrete work for the landscaped medians on Helmcken Road. Once all of the concrete work is completed (early to mid-November depending on weather conditions), paving of the roadway will begin. Rain garden installation and landscaping will occur through November and December.

Please note that due to excavation work in the intersection at Helmcken Road and Watkiss Way, the vehicle detector loops for this traffic signal are no longer in operation. Until paving takes place in the intersection and the loops can be re-installed, the signal timing operates at set maximum times. For example, the northbound left turn signal from Helmcken Road northbound to Watkiss Way westbound (towards the hospital) will come on automatically in the cycle whether a vehicle is in that left turn lane or not. We recognize the inconvenience to motorists; however unfortunately we are unable to make significant changes until the detector loops are re-installed and a new timing plan is implemented.

Be advised of the 30 km/h construction zone speed limit on both Helmcken Road and Watkiss Way in this area. Delays are to be expected and we recommend that motorists use alternate routes if possible. Observe traffic control persons and construction signage when travelling through the construction zone.

Note that roundabout rules are now in effect on Watkiss Way.
