Free Soil Testing Opportunity

Planning for a fruit and/or veggie garden this spring?

Healing City Soils is offering free heavy metal soil testing for residents who are growing food (or intending to grow food) throughout Langford, Colwood and View Royal this March through May 2018. Healing City Soils provides students from the Royal Roads Environmental Sciences program an opportunity to practically develop and apply their skills by conducting free soil tests for heavy metals.

Two of the most important project goals are to assess soil health in the Capital Regional District as well as to assist residents in increasing their soil literacy in order to grow food safely in residential areas.

When complete, the results of the testings are made available to the public through the Soil Health Quality Map at https://www.compost.bc.ca/healing-city-soils/victoria-soil-quality-map/. As a follow up, post-testing workshops that outline best practices for soil remediation and small-scale urban agriculture are offered for free to soil testing applicants from the rotating municipalities within the CRD.

To apply for free soil testing and for more information on the project, please visit https://www.compost.bc.ca/healing-city-soils/. Space is limited, apply today!
