View Royal Fire Members Deployed to Assist with BC Wildfires

As of Monday August 20th, there were 550 active wildfires burning in British Columbia. In response, View Royal Fire Rescue deployed six personnel and one fire engine to assist the Province with these wildfires:

  • Fire Chief Paul Hurst was in the northern area of the province at Takysie Lake working as the Structural Protection Branch Coordinator in the Babine Complex, specifically the Verdun Mountain fire. Takysie Lake is a community of approximately 1500 homes and buildings spread out over 100sq kilometres. Working with BC Wildfire Service, he was responsible for the coordination of structural protection for these areas and had five Task Force crews under his command.

  • Firefighter Pitre was the Team Leader for Task Force 1 on the Verdun Mountain fire under Chief Hurst. Firefighter Pitre and Task Force 1 provided structure protection in various areas affected by the Verdun Mountain Fire.

  • Fire Engine 38 was also deployed with a team of four volunteer firefighters to work within Task Force 4 for the Babine Complex. The crew was then sent to assist with efforts north of Smithers.
