Provide Your Feedback for the Active Transportation Network Plan

Council’s 2019-2022 Strategic Plan set a goal to shift the primary mode of transportation within View Royal away from the vehicle towards more greener modes of transport, such as walking, cycling and public transit. The Town is making significant strides towards achieving this goal by undertaking the development of its first ever Active Transportation Network Plan (ATNP).

Active transportation includes any form of human-powered transportation such as walking and cycling but also encompasses a variety of other modes such as using a skateboard, roller skates or in-line skates, a wheelchair, or a mobility aid. Active transportation has been and will continue to be a vital part of the Town’s transportation network as it can help with many of the Town’s priorities including environmental protection, greenhouse gas emission reductions, economic development, and infrastructure improvements.

Community Engagement Opportunities

The Town is launching community engagement for the ATNP to ask residents to provide feedback on current barriers to using active transportation within View Royal and what they would like to see improved.

  • Ideas Fairs - Saturday, June 25
Residents are invited to drop by one of the outdoor Ideas Fairs to share their thoughts on what they like in the current active transportation network and what needs more attention.
    Date: Time: Location:
    Saturday, June 25 9:30am - 12:30pm Portage Park
    2:30pm - 5:30pm Chancellor Park
  • Online Survey #1
Online Survey #1 invites residents to provide feedback on challenges facing View Royal residents who use the active transportation network and changes they would like to see addressed in the ATNP. The survey will be open until July 22, 2022.

The ATNP process will also include consultation with stakeholder groups, neighbouring municipalities, and the Songhees Nation and Esquimalt Nation that border View Royal. Feedback will help guide the recommendations in the draft ATNP, which will be presented back to the community in the Fall of 2022.
