COVID -19 Information

Updated March 23, 2020

The Town of View Royal is prepared to handle potential impacts and service disruptions from COVID-19.

As of March 12, 2020 the Town has activated our Emergency Operations Centre (EOC). We are in the planning stages of what the next few weeks/months may look like.

Preventative measures are in place and we are reviewing updates from the Provincial Health Office and adopting recommendations.

In light of the World Health Organization’s pandemic declaration regarding COVID-19, coupled with ongoing, preventative efforts under way in B.C., View Royal Council has decided at this time to cancel the Tuesday, April 7th Council meeting and going forward, will hold only one Council meeting, instead of two, each month.

The regularly scheduled Council meetings set for the first Tuesday of each month will not be held at this time. However, the regularly scheduled Council meetings set for the third Tuesday of each month will proceed.

As well the regularly scheduled Committee of the Whole meetings set for the second Tuesday of each month will proceed.

The Town’s Advisory Committee meetings have been cancelled for an indefinite period of time.

Please note that events may change as our regional situation changes. We will continue to work closely with other government agencies and Island Health.

Staff and residents are encouraged to take the following precautions to stay healthy and stop the spread of COVID-19:

  • wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds;
  • avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands;
  • avoid close contact with people who are sick;
  • cough or sneeze into a tissue or your sleeve and not into your hands;
  • stay home if you are sick, especially if you are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, to avoid spreading the illness to others; and
  • practice social distancing, keeping a two metre distance and avoid touching others.

Town Hall is closed to the public until further notice. Many Town services are available online or can be taken care of over the phone or by videoconferencing. Click here to read more.

The Public Safety Building is closed to the public and all regular programs have been cancelled until further notice. Any questions please call 250-479-7322.
