Town Hall - Limited Public Access but Municipal Business Operations Maintained

Town staff are working out the details for delivering services in-person beginning early June.

Beginning Monday, March 23, 2020, View Royal Town Hall closed to the public until further notice while still offering our services.

Town services:

Currently our drop box at the Town Hall (45 View Royal Avenue; drop box is located to the left of the main front doors) is available for cheque payments and our online and telephone banking services remain available for property tax and sewer utility account payments.  If you need to pay for other items, or pay in-person using cheque, cash or debit, please contact the Town Hall at 250-479-6800.

What is not available at Town Hall at this time?

  • Witnessing of pension or other similar legal documents
  • Town Hall washrooms are not available for public use currently

Yard and Garden Waste 

  • Yard and Garden Waste Transfer Station (formerly Canteen Composting) has re-opened. Their hours will be: 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Tuesday to Saturday. Ellice Recycle located at 524 David Street (250-386-4342) is open from 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, please note regular depot rates apply at this site. In order to allow for physical distancing, both the Yard and Garden Waste Transfer Station and Ellice Recycle will be limiting vehicle access to only two (2) vehicles in the yard at a time - please expect wait times.  
  • The Town requests that residents not drop off material at the Canteen Road site after hours or conduct illegal dumping in parks or boulevards. The public is encouraged to consider composting at home and is reminded that outdoor burning is prohibited. More information on composting can be found at

Other Municipal Operations:

In light of the World Health Organization’s pandemic declaration regarding COVID-19 and the resultant Provincial state of emergency, View Royal Council has decided at this time to hold two Council meetings each month electronically.

These Council meetings will take place on the regularly scheduled Council meeting dates set for the first and third Tuesday of each month.  

The regularly scheduled Committee of the Whole meetings set for the second Tuesday of each month and the Town’s Advisory Committee meetings have been cancelled until further notice.

Provincial Information 

The Province of British Columbia continues to post regular updates and information about support they are providing that you can find through their COVID-19 Provincial Support website.

Statistics Canada's ongoing survey on the Impacts of COVID-19 on Canadians.  This survey has ten questions and takes approximately five minutes to complete.

Provincial Health Services Authority wants to hear about your experience during the COVID-19 pandemic. Take their COVID-19 survey, your story, our future.

Rent relief on the way for B.C. small businesses:  Thousands of small businesses in British Columbia will see their monthly rent reduced by at least 75%, with the new federal-provincial Canada Emergency Commercial Rent Assistance Program (CECRA). Launching in mid-May 2020, the CECRA will see B.C. small businesses receive a total of over $300 million in federal-provincial relief, with B.C. contributing an estimated $80 million.  Read more

COVID-19 and Businesses Returning to Safe Operations - Phase 2

Employers resuming operations are required to develop a COVID-19 safety plan that outlines the policies, guidelines, and procedures they have put in place to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission. Please visit the WorkSafe BC website for further information.
