Town Hall - Open for Payments and Pickups

With new measures in place, Town Hall reopened on Monday, June 1 for those who need to pay their property taxes and other payments owing in person.  Appointments are preferred - use our new online Bookings application.

The new measures now in place include: 

  • Increased disinfecting and cleaning
  • Physical separation indictors marked on the floor
  • Barrier at the front counter
  • Online appointment booking to reduce waiting times
  • Hand sanitizer station upon entry
  • Asking ill guests and employees to stay home
  • Scheduled cleaning of high contact areas
  • Asking those who have travelled recently to stay home
  • Asking those who have COVID-19 or who are in contact with someone having COVID-19 to stay home

There are many ways to pay your property taxes or other payments owing without coming into Town Hall at all.

Our drop box at Town Hall (45 View Royal Avenue; drop box is located to the left of the main front doors) is available for cheque payments and online and telephone banking services remain available for property tax and sewer utility account payments if you do not want to come in.  If you need to pay for other items, or pay in-person using cheque, cash or debit, please contact the Town Hall at 250-479-6800 to set up an appointment or book an appointment online.  Booking appointments ensures the briefest contact time possible.

What is not available as a walk-in service at Town Hall currently? 

  • Town Hall washrooms
  • Coming in to look at building plans
  • Witnessing of pension or other similar legal documents
  • Walk-in enquiries (building, zoning, bylaw enforcement, engineering, etc.)

Yard and Garden Waste 

  • The Yard and Garden Waste Transfer Station (formerly Canteen Composting) at 605 Canteen Road is open 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Tuesday to Sunday. Ellice Recycle located at 524 David Street (250-386-4342) is open from 7:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, and 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday to Sunday. Pease note regular depot rates apply at the David Street site. In order to allow for physical distancing, both the Yard and Garden Waste Transfer Station and Ellice Recycle will be limiting vehicle access to only two (2) vehicles in the yard at a time - please expect wait times.  
  • The Town requests that residents not drop off material at the Canteen Road site after hours or conduct illegal dumping in parks or boulevards. The public is encouraged to consider composting at home and is reminded that outdoor burning is prohibited. More information on composting can be found at compost.bc.ca.

Other Municipal Operations:

In light of the World Health Organization’s pandemic declaration regarding COVID-19 and the resultant Provincial state of emergency, Council meetings will be live webcast taking into account the Public Health Order restriction on gatherings and physical distancing limitations.

These Council meetings will take place on the regularly scheduled Council meeting dates set for the first and third Tuesday of each month with the exception of September which will be the second and fourth Tuesday.   

The regularly scheduled Committee of the Whole meetings and the Town’s Advisory Committee meetings will resume in September.
