Bylaw Enforcement

Bylaw Enforcement Officers are given the task of investigating written complaints about alleged violations of View Royal's bylaws. If you have a concern about a perceived bylaw infraction, such as an infraction involving excessive noise, a hazardous property condition, or a potential zoning infraction, you can submit a written complaint to the Town.

Enforcement proceedings vary for each individual complaint and are decided upon based on the individual case. Some issues may be determined by the Town to be a civil matter between two property owners, or a minor non-enforceable infraction. Other issues may be enforced through a number of different measures, including municipal ticketing or seeking a court injunction.

Often complaints are resolved amicably between neighbours. If possible, it is recommended that each resident attempt to resolve their issues before contacting the Town's Bylaw Enforcement Officer.

Bylaw Infraction Complaints

Any concerns or complaints must be submitted in writing in order for the Town's Bylaw Enforcement Officer to investigate. To make a written complaint regarding a violation of municipal bylaw regulations, the Town requires the complainant to provide their name, address and phone number, as well as the complainant's association with the issue of complaint. Complainant information is considered confidential and will not be released to the person whose property is under complaint, unless under an order made by the Provincial Freedom of Information Commissioner.

Complaints may be made by filling out and submitting a Bylaw Enforcement Complaint Form [PDF - 62 KB] by email by contacting the Bylaw Enforcement Department, by mail or in person at the Town Hall.
