Film Screening: “Incandescence” Wildfire Documentary

August 22, 2025 (6:00 PM - 8:30 PM)

Join us on Friday, August 22 from 6:00 – 8:30pm at the View Royal Public Safety Building for a screening of the film “Incandescence”. Popcorn, light snacks and refreshments will be provided.

The event is sponsored by the View Royal FireSmart Program. There is no cost to participants.

EVENT OVERVIEW:

“Incandescence” is a powerful documentary produced and distributed by the National Film Board of Canada from award-winning filmmakers Nova Ami and Velcrow Ripper. The film weaves together immersive footage and deeply personal accounts from Indigenous Elders, first responders and local evacuees in British Columbia’s Okanagan Valley including the White Rock Lake Fire of 2021 (Montey Lake) and McDougall Creek Fire of 2023 (West Kelowna).

Following the screening, we will host a short community discussion featuring a local wildfire mitigation specialist and emergency preparedness expert. The discussion will engage the community in sharing experiences, asking questions, and learning how to better prepare for wildfires. Our goal is to raise awareness of FireSmart practices and provide practical knowledge to enhance personal and community wildfire preparedness.
