Wildfire Resilient Gardening Workshop

June 22, 2025 (1:00 PM - 4:00 PM)

Join us for a free workshop on Wildfire Resilient Gardening on Sunday June 22 from 1pm – 4pm at View Royal Fire Rescue. The workshop is sponsored by the View Royal FireSmart Program and as such there is no cost to participants.

The workshop is facilitated by:

Jennie Sparks - owner of Fire Break Landscaping and holds a Master’s in Environmental Management, diplomas in Forestry and Wildlands Parks Management, and certifications in Organic Master Gardening and FireSmart training.

Bethany Couture - a sustainable horticulturist and permaculture practitioner based in Victoria, BC. She teaches permaculture at the Pacific Horticulture College and leads the public permaculture garden at the Horticulture Center of the Pacific.

The workshop will focus on:

  • How to mimic nature’s wildfire resilience
  • Selecting wildfire-resilient plants
  • Choosing fire-resilient mulches and groundcovers
  • Water and soil conservation practices for fire-smart landscapes
  • Designing resilient gardens to protect your home
