Town of View Royal Council to hold Special Council Meeting on the Western Gateway Corridor

View Royal Council will hold a Special Council Meeting on February 24 to take part in a facilitated discussion about the future of the Western Gateway corridor as part of View Royal 2050, the process to update the Official Community Plan (OCP).

The Western Gateway corridor is located along Island Highway between the Colwood border and the Atkins Interchange (see map below). It is an important connection between neighbourhoods, businesses, parks, and major transportation routes, including the Blink RapidBus line and the Galloping Goose Trail.

The purpose of this meeting is to provide Council a structured opportunity to review the proposed scenario for the corridor, compare it to the 2011 OCP, and provide clear policy direction for the future of the area.

During the meeting, Council will:

  • Review the 2011 OCP land use designations (uses, heights, and densities) for the Western Gateway corridor
  • Examine the proposed scenario, developed through earlier engagement with residents and stakeholders
  • Identify key policy differences between the 2011 OCP and the proposed scenario
  • Discuss considerations related to transportation, environmental protection, and future transit potential
  • Provide direction to the OCP Committee and staff

The Special Council Meeting is open to the public and will be held in person in Council Chambers as well as virtually via Live Webcast. Those interested in speaking may participate during the Public Participation Period and Question Period. The meeting will be led by an independent facilitator. Staff will provide technical information and clarification as needed.

Following the meeting, a facilitator summary report will be prepared. Council’s direction will guide the next steps for the Western Gateway corridor and its integration into the broader OCP update.

The agenda and meeting details will be posted prior to the meeting to Agendas, Minutes & Videos
