Engineering Permits & Servicing Applications

Below are frequently used applications for Engineering permits required for land development:

Boulevard Improvement or Modification Permit

A boulevard is the portion of a street between the curb lines or the lateral lines of a roadway, and the adjacent property line or between curbs on median strips or island.  The property owner is responsible for maintaining this area however a permit is required to landscape or alter the boulevard. 

Improvements or modifications may include ditch in-fill including installation of a culvert, landscaping, irrigation and/or placement of materials other than grass.

Drainage Connection Permit

When you build a new home or undertake a major renovation you’ll need to install or upgrade your water, sewer and drain service to meet current standards.  See the Subdivision and Development Servicing Bylaw No. 985, 2017 for reference click here.

Driveway Crossing Permit

A driveway crossing means the improved portion of the boulevard or sidewalk specifically designated to provide vehicular access to a property and includes the widest extent of the driveway flare.

A permit is required to install or modify a driveway crossing, including but not limited to removing, widening or repaving of an existing driveway. See the Subdivision and Development Servicing Bylaw No. 985, 2017 for reference click here.

Oversize Vehicle Permit

The Ministry of Transportation's regulations require that any oversize or overweight vehicle have a permit, obtained through the Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement (CVSE) Department.

Sewer Connection Permit

Street Construction Permit

Street construction permits are required for all work performed on every road, lane, bridge, road allowance or right of way open to public use including roadway, shoulder, boulevard, ditch and sidewalk.

Street Occupancy Permit

A Street Occupancy Permit is required to temporarily occupy, or encroach on, any portion of a street. Examples of this would be a mobile storage unit, waste disposal bin, a mobile office for a construction site or a café or patio for a business.

Street Use Permit

To host an event on Town streets such as block parties, parades, rallies, cycling & running races, etc. a Street Use Permit is required.
