On this page you will find status updates on Town Hall, Town services, meetings, parks and playgrounds, and other information related to COVID-19.


Town Hall

Town Hall is open to the public with COVID-19 safety measures in place.

These measures include: 

  • Masks are required for all visitors to Town Hall and for staff in common areas. Disposable masks are available for those entering without their own mask;
  • Increased disinfecting and cleaning;
  • Physical separation indicators marked on the floor;
  • Barrier at the front counter;
  • Online appointment booking;
  • Hand sanitizer station upon entry;
  • Asking ill guests and employees to stay home;
  • Scheduled cleaning of high contact areas;
  • Asking those who have travelled recently to stay home;
  • Asking those who have COVID-19 or who are in contact with someone who has COVID-19 to stay home.

We continue to encourage the public to conduct Town business online or via phone as much as possible. Prior to visiting Town Hall, please check whether or not an in-person visit is required.

If an in-person visit is required at Town Hall, appointments are preferred. Please use our online bookings application to schedule an appointment. Remember to wear a mask when attending your appointment at Town Hall.

Garbage and Household Food Waste Collection

Yard and Garden Waste 

In order to allow for physical distancing, both the Esquimalt/View Royal Yard and Garden Waste Transfer Station and Ellice Recycle will be limiting vehicle access to only two (2) vehicles in the yard at a time - please expect wait times.  

The Town requests that residents not drop off material at either site after hours or conduct illegal dumping in parks or boulevards. The public is encouraged to consider composting at home and is reminded that outdoor burning is prohibited. More information on composting can be found at compost.bc.ca.

Council Meetings & Public Hearings

Council meetings, Committee of the Whole meetings and Public Hearings will continue via live webcast only.

  • Council meetings will take place on the regularly scheduled Council meeting dates set for the first and third Tuesday of each month.   
  • Committee of the Whole meetings will take place on the regularly scheduled Committee of the Whole meeting dates set for the second Tuesday of each month.
  • Public Hearings will be scheduled as necessary and typically occur on Tuesday evenings.

Parks, Trails & Playgrounds

All parks, trails and playgrounds in View Royal are open. View Royal encourages those using parks and playgrounds to:

  • practice safe physical distancing;
  • wash your hands before and after using the play area;
  • come back later if the area seems too busy;
  • limit your time if others are waiting; and
  • stay home if you feel sick.
